How Do You Compare Motor Power Output?
Both kilowatt (kW) rating and KV rating matter, but they measure different things.
Kilowatt rating shows how much continuous or peak power a motor can handle under load. It’s a key indicator of overall strength.
KV rating tells you how many revolutions per minute (RPM) the motor will spin per volt of input, with no load. To estimate RPM, multiply KV by your battery voltage.
Think of it like cars: kW is your horsepower, while KV is your gearing. You can have tons of horsepower, but if the gearing isn’t right for your setup, you won’t get the speed or efficiency you expect. Matching your motor’s KV rating to your battery voltage ensures you’re getting the most out of the power available.
