The electric dirt bike market has changed dramatically over the past few years. More manufacturers are entering the market, power levels continue to increase, and the line between lightweight electric dirt bikes and full-size electric motorcycles is becoming increasingly blurred.

New models such as the Surron Light Bee 2, Talaria Komodo, and Bonnell 902 are joining an increasingly competitive field that already includes high-performance bikes from Surron, Talaria, E Ride Pro, Stark, Altis, RFN, Arctic Leopard and others.

But which electric dirt bike actually offers the best performance?

Peak horsepower is an obvious place to start, but it doesn't tell the entire story. A bike producing 50 HP at 150 lb is fundamentally different from one producing the same power at 250 lb.

For this comparison, we're looking at peak power, horsepower, weight, top speed, price and power-to-weight ratio to see how today's leading electric dirt bikes actually stack up. We'll also look beyond stock specifications to consider out-of-the-box performance versus long-term upgradability.

Electric Dirt Bike Categories & Standouts

The current electric dirt bike market spans a much wider range of sizes and performance levels than it did only a few years ago. Rather than treating every bike as if it competes in exactly the same category, it's more useful to separate the market into lightweight, mid-size and full-size electric dirt bikes.

These categories aren't defined by one exact weight cutoff, and some bikes sit near the boundaries between classes. However, grouping them by overall size and intended platform makes it easier to understand how their power, weight and riding characteristics compare.

Lightweight Electric Dirt Bikes

At the lighter end of the market, bikes such as the Surron Light Bee X, Talaria X3, 79Bike Falcon Pro and Zero XB remain among the easiest platforms to maneuver, transport and throw around on tighter terrain.

These bikes generally prioritize low weight and compact dimensions over outright stock power. The Surron Light Bee X and Talaria X3 both weigh approximately 125 lb, but their factory performance is now relatively modest compared with many newer electric dirt bikes.

The new Surron Light Bee 2 represents a major step forward in factory performance while still remaining firmly within the lightweight category, producing 24 kW of peak power and approximately 32.6 HP. According to Surron's official specifications, the bike weighs 143.3 lb. That gives it a 0.227 HP/lb power-to-weight ratio, making it one of the strongest stock lightweight production bikes in this comparison and placing it sixth out of 20 overall.

Other high-performance lightweight models include the Solar E-Clipse 2.0, Ventus 1+ EVO, Arctic Leopard XE Pro S, Talaria Sting MX5 and E Ride Pro SS 3.0.

The Ventus 1+ EVO is one of the biggest standouts in this class. With 32 kW of peak power and a curb weight of approximately 159 lb according to Ventus Bikes' specifications, it reaches a stock power-to-weight ratio of 0.270 HP/lb—higher than several considerably more powerful bikes.

This group demonstrates why peak horsepower alone can be misleading. Lightweight bikes don't necessarily need the highest absolute output to deliver very strong performance when that power is moving substantially less mass.

Mid-Size Electric Dirt Bikes

Mid-size electric dirt bikes bridge the gap between lightweight platforms and full-size electric motorcycles. Bikes such as the Surron Ultra Bee HP, E Ride Pro SR, Altis SigmaRFN Warrior Pro and Talaria Komodo offer larger chassis, more substantial suspension and a more motorcycle-like riding experience than the smallest lightweight bikes.

The E Ride Pro SR and Altis Sigma both produce roughly 25 kW while weighing in the low-to-mid 180-lb range, putting them extremely close to one another in power-to-weight ratio.

The new Talaria Komodo represents a significant step up from Talaria's lighter platforms. With approximately 32 kW peak power and a curb weight of 216 lb according to Talaria Canada specifications, it moves further into the mid-size category while delivering substantially more factory performance than models such as the Talaria X3 or Sting MX5.

The Bonnell 805 sits near the upper end of the mid-size category. At approximately 211 lb, it is considerably heavier than most lightweight platforms but still significantly lighter than the 250-plus-pound full-size machines in this comparison. Its 42 kW peak output and approximately 0.265 HP/lb power-to-weight ratio make it one of the most powerful mid-size bikes in the group.

Mid-size bikes typically trade some of the agility and low weight of smaller platforms for increased stability, chassis size, suspension capability and a more substantial motorcycle feel. For many riders, that balance may be preferable to either extreme.

Full-Size Electric Dirt Bikes

At the upper end of the market, the Bonnell 902, EWatt Beast M and Stark VARG Alpha move into full-size electric motorcycle territory. These bikes deliver dramatically more absolute power than most lightweight and mid-size platforms, but they also carry considerably more weight.

The Bonnell 902 leads the stock power-to-weight comparison at approximately 0.348 HP/lb, combining 87 HP with an estimated 250-lb curb weight.

The EWatt Beast M follows closely at approximately 0.332 HP/lb, with 65 kW, 85 HP, a 255.7-lb curb weight and a claimed 93 mph top speed.

The Stark VARG Alpha delivers approximately 80 HP in a full-size motocross platform according to Stark VARG's specifications, resulting in a still-impressive 0.308 HP/lb at approximately 260 lb.

These bikes demonstrate just how far production electric dirt bike performance has progressed. They also reinforce why outright horsepower and power-to-weight ratio need to be considered separately: a full-size bike may produce substantially more total power, while a lighter machine may still deliver a competitive or superior ratio of power to mass.

Why Power-to-Weight Ratio Matters

Horsepower and peak kilowatts tend to receive the most attention when a new electric dirt bike is released, but power-to-weight ratio can be just as important as outright power.

Consider two hypothetical bikes that both produce 40 HP. If one weighs 150 lb and the other weighs 250 lb, their performance characteristics are going to be dramatically different despite having identical peak-power figures.

Lower weight can affect acceleration, direction changes, braking, maneuverability, jumping, technical trail riding and how easily the rider can control and move the bike. That's why we've included horsepower per pound (HP/lb) in this comparison rather than ranking bikes exclusively by peak output.

Which Electric Dirt Bike Has the Best Power-to-Weight Ratio?

Based on the stock specifications in our comparison, the Bonnell 902 currently leads the field at approximately 0.348 HP/lb.

The EWatt Beast M follows at approximately 0.332 HP/lb, with the Stark VARG Alpha at approximately 0.308 HP/lb.

Perhaps more interesting is the Ventus 1+ EVO. At approximately 0.270 HP/lb, its combination of 42.9 HP and a 159-lb curb weight allows it to outperform several much more powerful—and much heavier—bikes on a power-to-weight basis.

The Surron Light Bee 2 also stands out at approximately 0.227 HP/lb while weighing only 143.3 lb.

These numbers help illustrate why power-to-weight ratio matters. A bike doesn't necessarily need the highest total horsepower to deliver extremely strong performance from a lightweight chassis. At the same time, power-to-weight ratio is only one part of the equation. Chassis size, suspension, stability, battery capacity, range and intended use all play a major role in how a bike performs in the real world.

Out-of-the-Box Performance vs. Upgradability

Stock specifications aren't the only consideration when choosing an electric dirt bike. Some of the newest bikes on the market offer dramatically more power, speed and battery capacity out of the box than earlier electric dirt bike platforms. For a rider who wants strong performance without modifying anything, those factory specifications may be one of the most important factors in the buying decision.

But out-of-the-box performance and long-term performance potential aren't necessarily the same thing. A newer platform may offer more stock power, a larger battery and a higher top speed, while a more established platform may have a much larger aftermarket supporting batteries, controllers, motors, suspension, brakes, wheels and other performance upgrades.

The original Surron Light Bee is the clearest example. There are now numerous electric dirt bikes that substantially outperform a stock Light Bee in outright power and top speed. However, few electric dirt bike platforms have developed the same depth of aftermarket support.

For riders who plan to leave their bike primarily stock, out-of-the-box performance may matter more than upgrade potential.

For riders who expect to modify their bike over time, however, aftermarket support and upgradability can be just as important as the original factory specifications.

And that's where the comparison becomes particularly interesting—because the Light Bee's stock numbers tell only part of the story.

How Does a Fully Upgraded Surron LBX Compare?

Modern battery, controller and motor combinations can push the Surron Light Bee X into power levels that would have seemed unrealistic for the platform only a few years ago.

A fully upgraded high-performance Light Bee can produce approximately 45 kW, or roughly 60 HP, while remaining around 150 lb, depending on the exact components used. That gives us an approximate power-to-weight ratio of: 60 HP ÷ 150 lb = 0.400 HP/lb

The comparison is notable because the upgraded Light Bee doesn't produce more total horsepower than the Bonnell 902, EWatt Beast M or Stark VARG Alpha. Instead, its advantage comes from combining substantial power with a dramatically lighter chassis.

At approximately 0.400 HP/lb, a 60 HP, 150-lb Light Bee has roughly 15% more horsepower per pound than the stock Bonnell 902 at approximately 0.348 HP/lb.

That doesn't mean the modified Light Bee is objectively a better motorcycle. Full-size and high-power production bikes offer different chassis characteristics, suspension, stability, ergonomics and riding experiences.

That's precisely what makes the comparison interesting. A fully built Light Bee takes a different approach: putting extreme power into an exceptionally light and compact platform.

A Surron Light Bee Has Already Exceeded 100 MPH

Triple-digit Light Bee speeds aren't theoretical. In 2024, Darwin EV recorded a Surron Light Bee at 103 mph, demonstrating what is possible when the lightweight platform is paired with a high-performance powertrain.

It's important to distinguish this result from the manufacturer-rated speeds in our stock-bike comparison. 103 mph is not the stock top speed of a Surron Light Bee. It's a documented example of the performance potential available from a heavily upgraded platform.

Why Build a High-Power Surron Light Bee Instead of Buying a Bigger Bike?

Because they're different types of bikes.

If you want a full-size electric motocross bike, buying a platform designed from the beginning as a full-size motorcycle may be the better choice. That's not necessarily what someone building a 50 or 60 HP Light Bee wants.

The appeal of the Light Bee is its combination of extreme power and extremely low weight. On tight single track and in the woods, a properly built high-power Light Bee can change direction extremely quickly and be thrown around in ways that a substantially heavier full-size motorcycle simply can't.

The objective isn't to turn the Light Bee into a Stark VARG, Bonnell 902 or another full-size high-power machine. It's to create something different: full-size motorcycle levels of power in a roughly 150-lb package.

What Is the Best Electric Dirt Bike in 2026?

There isn't one electric dirt bike that's best for every rider. Today's market includes everything from roughly 125-lb lightweight platforms to 80-plus horsepower electric motorcycles weighing more than twice as much.

The newest generation of electric dirt bikes is faster and more powerful than anything we've seen before. Bikes such as the Ventus 1+ EVO and Surron Light Bee 2 are pushing lightweight performance forward, while the Bonnell 805, Bonnell 902, EWatt Beast M, Talaria Komodo and Stark VARG Alpha demonstrate just how broad the performance spectrum has become.

But horsepower alone doesn't determine which bike is best.

Power, weight, top speed, price, out-of-the-box performance, upgradability and intended use all need to be considered together.

For riders who want maximum performance without modifying their bike, today's highest-output production models offer levels of factory performance that were nearly unheard of in this category only a few years ago.

For riders interested in maximum long-term performance from the lightest possible package, however, the original Surron Light Bee remains an unusually capable platform. Its combination of extremely low chassis weight and one of the largest aftermarket ecosystems in the industry allows a relatively modest stock bike to be transformed into a roughly 60 HP machine capable of triple-digit speeds and an estimated power-to-weight ratio of approximately 0.400 HP/lb.
